New Delhi.  The Modi government has extended the lockdown for the third time to prevent the spread of corona virus.  The lockdown has been extended from May 3 to May 17.  Meanwhile, the government has also taken a big decision regarding liquor, paan, gutka and tobacco shops.  Liquor shops are exempted from opening.  But some conditions have to be followed.

Red, Green and Orange liquor stores will open in all places


Liquor shops will be opened in the Red, Green and Orange zones during the lockdown.  However, the government has placed some conditions for this.  A special condition has been laid for the Red Zone.  Water shops have also been allowed to open.

Condition to open liquor store in Green Zone


In the green zone, liquor, paan, gutka and tobacco shops can be opened anywhere.  The condition for this would be to have a distance of two yards (6 feet) outside the shop.  Also, do not gather more than 5 people.

Condition to open liquor store in Red Zone


A special condition has been laid for opening liquor shops in the Red Zone.  Single shops of liquor, gutka, paan and tobacco will open in the districts of Red Zone.  Single shops mean those shops which are not in the market or in crowded areas.  These are called stand alone shops.  These shops should not be in any mall.  If alone, it can open.  In addition, there will be a condition that there is a distance of two yards (6 feet) outside the shop.  Also, do not gather more than 5 people.

Why decide to open a liquor store?


Liquor shops are closed during the lockdown.  During this time, many states including Punjab demanded to open liquor shops.  This will open up a large source of revenue for the states.  It is a major revenue stream after GST.

These facilities will not be available in any zone till May 17


There are some facilities that will not be found in any zone during the lockdown till May 17, including the interstate movement by air, rail, metro and road, including schools, colleges, and other instructive and preparing/training organizations.

Red, Orange and Green Zone discounts during lockdown


Exempting media personnel from the Red Zone during lockdown.  Apart from this, people associated with IT sector, call centers, cold storage, commercial institutions and private security companies have been exempted.  Paid taxis will run in the Orange Zone.  In addition, the taxi should have only one ride.  A private car can have only three people, including a driver.  50% of the buses will run in the Green Zone.  Buses will carry only 50% passengers.  Factories will also open there.
